Day 1

I've cut my hair. Not so smart. I've caught the sun quite a bit recently and the top half of my face is now framed in brilliant white where my hair used to be. I thought maybe some glorious Bournemouth sun would balance it out. But no, it's been pissing it down.

I grabbed a meal deal and then the train. The last time I did this journey to Bournemouth, I got stuck next to some scabby old woman. She spent the entire time rolling cigarettes with gnarled, yellow-stained fingers, hacking away at a guttural cough clearly honed over a long, successful smoking career. So this time I was pleasantly surprised to see my reserved seat was next to an attractive business-suited woman who wasn't rolling fags with her fingers, but holding a Kindle in them instead. I guess it's a human impulse to impress people, especially attractive people, so I decided I should probably try to appear suave in some way. I put my food and book on the flip-down tray, then set about working out what the most sophisticated way to sit and behave would be. I'd smile, she'd smile, I'd ask her about her book, she'd ask about me, I'd say something witty and charming, she'd laugh and blush...it was all going to be so perfect. Then I realised that attractive business-suited women who own Kindles probably aren't impressed with grown men who eat roast beef Monster Munch. I decided not to eat them in front of her and dropped very little of my sandwich down myself, which is probably the most suave I could have hoped to appear.

Its strange to find myself at band practice on my first night away. Its been many years since I was in a practice studio and its nice to see some bloody work going on in one for once. 9 Left Behind are a punk band made up of some young talented musicians and a man with a beard, possibly their dad. Tonight was supposed to be gig night, but that was cancelled so instead I'm honoured to be privy to a practice session. We just had a break to get some food. I bought more Monster Munch.
